Mark Kozelek had a prolific 2018 and as a new year is about to dawn, it appears 2019 will be equally busy. A post added to his official website earlier this month makes the announcement that Kozelek will release at least two albums in 2019.
The first was previously announced back in August and will be a collaborative release with Donny McCaslin and Jim White. It’ll be released in March of 2019 under the new title I Also Want to Die in New Orleans (which he explains is a play on the $uicideboy$ upcoming album I Want to Die In New Orleans) – it was originally going to be called Mark Kozelek with Donny McCaslin and Jim White. This album will technically be released as a Sun Kil Moon album.
The new album is described as a six-song full length LP and while it doesn’t have a specified release date, it’s planned to come out around July 2019. Some of the contributors to the album, which was recorded in 2018 in Portland, Amsterdam and Kozelek’s hometown of San Francisco, include violinist Petra Haden (The Decemberists), pianist Jason Lindner, actor Kevin Corrigan, former Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley, saxophonist Donny McCaslin and multi-instrumentalist Ben Boye. The album will be officially announced in February, along with song titles and an official album title.
In 2018 he first released a self-titled album under his name, Mark Kozelek. Then he released a new Sun Kil Moon album, titled This Is My Dinner. It was the follow-up to 2017’s Sun Kil Moon release, As Light And Love Are Red Valleys Of Blood.
