From the ripped quality of the video clips to the ambiguity of who was involved, it’s hard to know what to make of the song “Rock The Rock” that featured a cartoon Axl Rose jamming with Looney Tunes. However, the clips have caused rampant speculation that this might actually be the first new Guns N Roses since 2008’s long-awaited and heavily-disappointing Chinese Democracy.
According to Consequence of Sound, the video comes from a kid’s cartoon called New Looney Tunes, which can be viewed on the streaming app Boomerang. Rose plays himself (though as the leader of a fake rock band called Steel Underpants) and takes on a surprisingly self-deprecating tone. Working alongside Bugs Bunny and Porky Pig, the rock legend helps save the world by blasting an asteroid with some pure rock ‘n roll power. Watch a lo-fidelity rip of the show below:
There has been speculation that the band is working on new material with its Not In This Lifetime Tour lineup, as guitarist Richard Fortus spilled the beans to St. Louis radio station KSHE 95 in an interview earlier this month. In the interview, the host asks Fortus about the likelihood of new GNR by the time 2019 wraps up, to which he responded, “It could definitely happen.” He also ambiguously suggested the band may have already written some material. Ultimate Classic Rock mentions that Guns N Roses often came onto the stage to the Looney Tunes theme.
It makes sense for Guns N Roses to continue to capitalize on the huge success of their reunion tour. The Not In This Lifetime Tour has been a smashing commercial success, thought to be the second highest-grossing tour of all time. While on a recent leg of the tour, the band was forced to cut short a show when Rose fell “extremely ill.”
