Pop singer Robyn has released a Christmas song this season in the form of a cover of the song “Last Christmas” by Wham!. Robyn is fresh from a 2018 return to music with her incredible album, Honey. This was her first major project in 8 years, and proved that she still had the ability to make amazing music. The album gave listeners hit songs, such as “Missing U” and the title track “Honey.” Robyn’s cover of “Last Christmas” was shared to listeners on BBC’s Radio 1 earlier this month, performing it live during her time on the show.
The album Honey, which was released in November this year, put some of Robyn’s best work on display. The singer relied on powerful synthetic beats to support her soothing vocal performances in order to create something very unique. In fact, Honey ranked highly on our website’s top 50 albums of the year list; claiming the number 6 spot overall. On Mxdwn’s top 50 song list, the song “Missing U” from the album was also ranked the number 32 song overall and the track “Human Being” took number 15. Both these tracks contain passionate lyrics and strong synthetic production. In total, the album can be considered one of the best pop albums of the year.
On her BBC Radio performance, Robyn promoted her new album with a rendition of the track “Honey,” before moving on to discuss how large of an influence George Michael of Wham! was on her growing up. This is what leads her to cover the group’s hit song “Last Christmas.” Robyn also discussed her upcoming tour in support of Honey, which begins in February of 2019. The tour will take her to dates across both Europe and North America, including a variety of different festivals throughout the year. Robyn’s cover of “Last Christmas” on BBC Radio can be found below.
