Alice Glass Releases New Video for Melancholy Song “I Trusted You”

Singer songwriter and former vocalist for Crystal Castles Alice Glass has launched the holiday season with a melancholic tack entitled “I Trusted You,” as part of Adult Swim’s Fever Dreams compilation series. “I Trusted You,” discusses a devastating betrayal by someone that the singer has trusted in the past.

Throughout the music video Glass sings across a backdrop of various suburban houses and Christmas lights in a neighborhood. “I trusted you/now I’m mad that I wasted it/It’s not my place to say if I did/you know I’d rather be wasting it/be wasting it,” serves as the song’s main chorus, which are delivered by Glass’ somber vocal style.

Back in 2017 Glass accused her former Crystal Catle’s bandmate Ethan Kath (Claudio Palmieri) of rape and sexual assault that had allegedly gone on for years. According to her statement , she began a relationship with Kath, who was ten years her senior at the age of 15.

“I met “Ethan Kath” (Claudio Palmieri) when I was in the 10th grade. The first time he took advantage of me was when I was around 15. He was 10 years older than me,” Glass explained in the statement. “I came to in the back of his car extremely intoxicated (from drinks he had given me that night). We didn’t talk for months after that. He went to great lengths to find me again, stalking me and driving past my high school looking for me.”

Glass had made statements condemning Kath in the past, and made a statement in 2016 that helped remove the musician from the 79 Cent Festival, a feminist centered event.  “As someone who knew [Crystal Castles frontman] Ethan Kath on a personal and professional level, it is my opinion that he is not an appropriate artist to be performing at a feminism-centric event,” Glass explained.

During her statement she furthered elaborated on Kath’s abuse, stating:

“I was miserable and my lyrics indirectly spoke to the pain and oppression that I was enduring. But as is sometimes the case in abusive relationships, his cruelty was often followed by kindness. He was very good at keeping his terrible treatment of me private. He was charming sometimes, he was hyper protective and most of all I loved the band we had together. But he often told me how replaceable I was. He’d even tell me that he was actively looking for someone to replace me. He kept me insecure and on edge, and then would tell me that he was the only one it the world that believed in me. He told me it was us against everyone, because everyone else thought I was a loser, a joke, a talentless dancing clown. I believed him. I was suicidal for years”

Kath attempted to sue the vocalist for defamation in response, calling the accusations “pure fiction.” This lawsuit was eventually thrown out by court, leading Kath to owe his former bandmate around $20,000 in legal fees. “Oh and the bullshit lawsuit by my former bandmate was once again denied in his appeal attempt today. Now he owes us legal fees,” Glass explained in a Twitter post.
