The extreme metal band Old Man Gloom has just confirmed that Cave In vocalist and guitarist Stephen Brodsky is now a permanent member of the band, according to The PRP. This new comes after the Old Man Gloom recently lost their bandmade, and Brodsky’s Cave In bandmate, Caleb Scofield earlier this year due to a tragic car accident.
Scofield passed away at the age of 39 after his pickup truck collided with a concrete barrier on a tollway in New Hampshire. Since his passing, Brodsky has been filling in for Scofield at tribute concerts and other Old Man Gloom shows.
Old Man Gloom is a metal group that formed in Sante Fe, New Mexico back in 1999, but as since been based in Massachusetts as of recent years. The band consists of Aaron Turner on guitar and vocals, Santos Montano on the drum, Nate Newton on guitar and vocals and now Brodsky on bass and vocals. The band is expected to perform at the 2019 Roadburn Festival alongside bands Birds In Row, Vile Creature, Midnight, and even Cave In.
Turner will not only be performing at the festival as a member of Old Man Gloom, but as a member of a new project called DOOLHOF. The new project is an exclusive collaboration from Turner, Dennis Tyfus from the experimental label Ultra Eczema and Will Brooks aka MC dälek from the experimental hip-hop group dälek. Turner will be on the guitars while his fellow band member Brooks is on vocals and Tyfus is on the tapes. The band is scheduled to perform April 13, the day before Old Man Gloom performs.
It will be interesting to see the new material Old Man Gloom will put out in 2019, with the introduction of Brodsky. It’s also worth paying attention if former Scofield will have any of his contributions included in the next record.
