English singer-songwriter Imogen Heap revealed today that she is returning to the U.S for her first North American tour in nine years. Lately, she has been touring Europe for her Mycelia World Tour and will be bringing it to 9 cities across the U.S this upcoming Spring.
The Mycelia World Tour was a 40-city tour that is said to help launch Mycelia’s “Creative Passport.” Mycelia is a non-profit that Heap started to help promote artist-led, fair and sustainable operating practices. According to the press release, Mycelia is “a vision of the future which sees music makers connected through a verified and decentralized ecosystem, promoting artist-led, fair and sustainable operating practices.” Check out the video to get more insight on Heap’s non-profit.
Heap’s Mycelia tour is said to be different and hands-on and will be unlike any tour one has seen before. It will be comprised of concerts, talks with Imogen as she discusses how technology is shaping the future of music, and workshops that will help connect the tour with local musicians, technologists and industry influencers to showcase the development of the ‘Creative Passport.’ There is also a family workshop for those with young kids where they can create their own MIni.MU Gloves It will also feature performances by Frou Frou, the electronic group created by Heap and composer/producer Guy Sigsworth. This will be the band’s first time that they have played together since 2003.
In a statement by Heap, she talks about the platform in which she hopes to launch; “For years now we’ve been complaining about the state of the music industry and how it has been held back by old ways of thinking, negatively impacting music makers – a major pain point being that we are the first to put in any of the work, and the last to see any financial reward or even payment. Through Mycelia and its ‘Creative Passport’, as music makers we now have no excuse but to put our best foot forward and become open for business, decentralising the ecosystem so that it will ultimately benefit everyone. I am excited to be going on the road to bring this to life, in addition to showcasing other new technologies which will add to transforming the music industry into a fair, flourishing and vibrant place”.
Heap will bring the Mycelia tour to 9 cities across North America hoping to spread her vision to the whole world. She will begin the tour on April 28th in Miami Florida and will continue on across the U.S performing in cities such as Washington DC, New York, Chicago, Toronto, Boston, Austin, Seattle. The Mycelia Tour will end on June 8th in San Francisco. Tickets for the spring dates have already gone on sale this past Friday, December 14th.
