Wavves Releases New Emo Christmas EP Today

The band Wavves just released a festive new EP, Emo Christmas which includes two songs, “Emo Christmas” and “So Glad It’s Christmas.” Frontman Nathan Williams belts out lyrics in “Emo Christmas” with an intro, something about Christmas makes me cry and I don’t know why. I still think about you all the time and I don’t know why. Haven’t seen you since the 4th of July. Watch the snowflakes fall out of the sky and I don’t know why.

The festive two song EP is perfect to get you in the holiday mood. After all, one can only handle listening to the same old Christmas songs in the mall or radio, the songs about Rudolph and Santa Claus are considered holiday classics but let’s face it, we’ve all heard them a million times. Thankfully, we can add a fresh batch of festive and fun tunes to the tradition.

While listening, you might imagine strolling down a snowy sidewalk somewhere. At least that’s what Williams sings in “So Glad It’s Christmas” with lyrics, walking back in the snow, you’re in my arms that’s all I know. I’m just so glad it’s Christmas. Williams wrote “Emo Christmas”and “So Glad It’s Christmas” was written by Wavves bassist Stephen Pope. Last year for the holidays, the band released a cover of “Christmas Time is Here.”

The band has produced six studio albums with their third album, King of the Beach (2010) produced by Grammy-winning producer Dennis Herring at Sweet Tea in Mississippi.  The album was named the 24th-best album of the year by Spin and the 50th best album of the year by Pitchfork.

In April, Wavves re-released their self-titled debut album in honor of their ten-year anniversary. The band is currently touring with Beach Fossils, and will be wrapping their co-headlining run this December.

Kelly Tucker: Originally from Los Angeles, I grew up listening to all types of music. My first concert was Aerosmith with Skid Row, then moved on to concerts with Metallica, Lollapalooza, Guns N’ Roses, Soundgarden and more. One of my favorite shows of all time was when I was in college and someone took me to see the Allman Brothers play. I also scalped a ticket to see Pearl Jam and the amazing Eddie Vedder sing his heart out. My professional career started in 2000 at Nielsen Business Media where I was an assistant in a sales department and later got promoted to advertising account executive. When the recession hit in 2008 and the magazine was sold, I took a job at a call center and later got promoted to assistant to the CEO and COO of a global company. In 2017, I took a position at a pharmaceutical agency, and now currently responsible for coordinating meeting logistics for physicians and pharma reps throughout the United States. In my spare time, I work at Peace4Kids a non-profit in South Los Angeles and write screenplays in hopes to make a breakthrough.
