Influential heavy metal artist Devin Townsend has continued teasing studio material off his upcoming eighteenth studio album Empath, that is set to be released next March off InsideOut Music. Beneath The Massacre vocalist Elliot Desgagnés, along with drummera Mike Keneally (Dethklok, etc.), Morgan Ågren (Kaipa) and Sam “Samus” Paulicelli (Decrepit Birth) are set to be on the upcoming album.
Townsend praised Desgagnés in a Twitter post for helping assist him with vocals on the album. “Cheers to Elliot Einstien from Beneath The Massacre for laying down brutal vocals for my ‘choir’. A guys gotta know his limitations, and guttural vocals are not my strong suit…” Townsend wrote in the post.
Cheers to Elliot Einstien from Beneath The Massacre for laying down brutal vocals for my ‘choir’. A guys gotta know his limitations, and guttural vocals are not my strong suit… I just sound like SuperGrover when I try. He is a beast and it really completes the frequencies.

…I can scream like my balls are caught in a taffy puller, but low death metal vocals, I just sound hilarious. 🙂

These updates have been occurring throughout the month of November, with the artist uploading content from the studio. These updates have implied that the project will cover numerous styles.
In regard to his upcoming album Townsend stated:
“I have been busy making my newest recording, Empath over the past year. It has been a complicated and enlightening experience in that I have gone back to my roots in terms of what my motivations are for making music, in hopes that I am able to move forward as a musician being as true as I possibly can to my motivations.”
The artist is planning on going on an acoustic tour during the winter of 2019. “The time has come however for me to take the next step in my career, and when asked about how I would like to do so, I decided the first thing I would do was a very intimate run of shows that allows me to play my music stripped back to just me and a guitar,” Townsend explained regarding the tour.
