Legendary rock band, Metallica, has recently announced that they will be releasing a charity album to raise money for the group’s All Within My Hands Foundation. The organization, started by Metallica members last year, focuses on giving back to communities who have supported the group throughout their journey as well as underprivileged individuals in need of assistance. Since its founding in February 2017, All Within My Hands Foundation has worked with a variety of groups, such as Feeding America, the World Childhood foundation and the Houston Food Bank. One of the band’s recent benefit shows took place in San Francisco and was to raise money for those hurt by the recent wildfires in northern California, along with a variety of other charities the foundation supports. The group cemented themselves in the music industry in San Francisco in the 1980s and wanted to give back to the people that helped and supported their music over the past decades.
The Camp Fire, which ravaged northern California early in November, has been designated as the deadliest wildfire in California history. Nearly 100 individuals died in the tragic fire, while countless others have lost their homes and their communities. Covering over 150,000 acres, the blaze took weeks to put out and has done irreparable harm to the lives of many. This hit close to home for the members of Metallica, leading to their acoustic benefit concert earlier this month and a $100,000 donation to wildfire relief efforts by the All Within My Hands Foundation. The concert, which also included a charity auction, raised over a million dollars for the band’s foundation and will serve as the recording for their upcoming album.
The album will feature a variety of songs from the show, all of which are acoustic version of the songs. In addition to their own material, the band played covers of songs by the groups Nazareth and Blue Öyster Cult; all of which will be present on the upcoming album. In total the live album will have 12 songs, separated onto a two disc vinyl set. The album, which has been titled Helping Hands… Live & Acoustic at the Masonic, will feature some of the band’s biggest hits, including the songs “The Unforgiven” and “Nothing Else Matters” from their 1991 self-titled album, which is also known as the black album. The charity album is set to release on February 1st, 2019, but is available for preorder today. The preorder will include the two-disc vinyl set as well as a digital download of the album once it releases. All proceeds for the project will go to the All Within My Hands Foundation.
