Grimes Teases Plans to Release New Music This Week

Grimes issued a tweet that she will be releasing new material on Thursday, November 29. She will also be selling new merchandise, including t-shirts and stickers at her web store.

Grimes recently joined Poppy on her Am I a Girl? “Play and Destroy” track and Jimmy Urine for his song “The Medicine Does Not Control Me.” Earlier this year, she said a new album could be expected in 2018 and shared a “working” tracklist for the LP. Her last full-length release was 2015’s Art Angels.

Grimes (born March 17, 1988) is the stage name of the electro-R&B and synthpop singer-songwriter Claire Boucher  from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Boucher’s music career began while studying neuroscience at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Unfortunately, she was expelled for not giving the school her full attention, however she started organizing performances alongside the arts collective Lab Synthèse in an abandoned textile factory.

The label Arbutus Records was soon born as a promotional outlet for the collective’s acts, and released Grimes’ debut album cassette Geidi Primes in 2010. Her next album Halfaxa was released in late 2010, after which Grimes released a split 12” with d’Eon entitled Darkbloom. Grimes opened for Lykke Li on her North American tour in May 2011. She also collaborated with fellow Lab Synthèse act Majical Cloudz on the single “Dream World” and re-released her debut album Geidi Primes on No Pain in Pop Records.

Grimes signed with the revered UK independent label 4AD in January 2012, who issued her third full-length album Visions in February of that year. Her singles “Genesis” and “Oblivion”won the Juno Award for best Electronic Album of the Year Award, followed by the Webby Award for Artist of the Year.

Kelly Tucker: Originally from Los Angeles, I grew up listening to all types of music. My first concert was Aerosmith with Skid Row, then moved on to concerts with Metallica, Lollapalooza, Guns N’ Roses, Soundgarden and more. One of my favorite shows of all time was when I was in college and someone took me to see the Allman Brothers play. I also scalped a ticket to see Pearl Jam and the amazing Eddie Vedder sing his heart out. My professional career started in 2000 at Nielsen Business Media where I was an assistant in a sales department and later got promoted to advertising account executive. When the recession hit in 2008 and the magazine was sold, I took a job at a call center and later got promoted to assistant to the CEO and COO of a global company. In 2017, I took a position at a pharmaceutical agency, and now currently responsible for coordinating meeting logistics for physicians and pharma reps throughout the United States. In my spare time, I work at Peace4Kids a non-profit in South Los Angeles and write screenplays in hopes to make a breakthrough.
