This White Light is a new band formed by Greg Anderson on guitar, Bryan Herweg on bass, Jen Wood on vocals and Jade Devitt on drums. The new band has premiered a new track titled “The House“. Recording sessions took place last April with Queens Of The Stone Age mastermind Josh Homme at his Pink Duck Studios.
Their new song, “The House” is solid with dark, sultry vocals by Wood. The song begins with a series of light guitar and drum beats, Wood comes in lightly with lyrics, left for dead, crawling like a snake. She hums and repeats lyrics, left for dead, enemies in the house, slither like a snake, disguise your ways, oh colors you hate. The buildup of her vocals leads into a frenzy of guitar and drums, while her voice builds into a harrowing yet melodic channel of soft female energy. The band has a symbiotic element that is unique in its own right. The collaboration is refreshing in every sense.
Greg Anderson, who’s helped release Terrestrials and Greatest Hits Vol. 1, is well known for his work in Sunn O))) and Goatsnake, and is also the founder of Southern Lord Records. Bryan Herweg, who’s helped release a live album and released songs such as “The Cliff”, is well known in the group Pelican. Jen Wood, who’s released Wilderness and “Run With The Wild Ones”, is well known as an ex member of Tattle Tale. Jade Devitt is known to be in many groups such as Lucky Me, Schedule and Engine Kid.
The band also released song, “Winter Flowers” where the guitar carries vocalist Wood and her soft voice. The lyrics are in perfect harmony with the strong drums and guitar rifts. The video encapsulates the mysterious nature of the short life span of flowers, which wither and die. Then whiteness drowns out the entire plant and the words, This White Light comes onto the screen.
