King Buzzo and Kevin Rutmanis Announce Bluewhale, First Collaboration Since the Bassist’s Departure from Melvins

Rock Is Hell Records has just announced that they will be putting out a split between experimental rock outfit Void Manes and Bluewhale, a new collaborative project between King Buzzo (Buzz Osborne) of the Melvins and Kevin Rutmanis, the ex-Melvins bassist.

This new release will be the first collaboration between Osborne and Rutmanis since the latter left the band in early 2005. He had originally joined the band in 1998 after previous bassist Mark Deutrom had left the band. At the time of Rutmanis’ addition, Buzz said that he created the definitive lineup of the Melvins.

Rutmanis departed from the Melvins due to what was called “unpredictability,” most notably recognized in a series of tour date cancellations in 2004 and the subsequent fallout.

The 7″ split, with 250 copies of white vinyl and 20 copies of black vinyl, will be available in early January, and they will start taking pre-orders in early December. The single will come with a 58 page book of paintings by Mow Skwoz and photos by New Juche called “Night Daycream”.
