Downtown Atlanta’s festival Shaky Knees has just announced its 2019 line-up. With big names; Tame Impala, Beck and Cage the Elephant to headline. Founder Tim Sweetwater who wanted an emphasis to be on showcasing homegrown talent and cater to the local’s interests will host over sixty-five bands across four stages in Central Park between May 3-5 2019.
It appears that Atlanta, even with its already bursting at the seam’s music scene, with festivals such as Sweetwater 420 and Atlanta Jazz fest still has room for this successful indie rooted festival. Sweetwood’s early days were very much independent, managing parties at local bars and a few local bands. However, it was the opportunity at the Masquerade that acted as a springboard into the festival scene he believes. It was out of this wealth of experience that Shaky Knees was born back in 2013 and according to tvovermind.com the debuting year sold approximately nine thousand tickets on each day.
Sweetwood’s all-encompassing outlook on music has meant that under the umbrella of Shaky Knees which name derives from the Morning Jacket’s song “steam engine”, new festivals have popped up including Shaky Beats (EDM and Hip Hop Festival) and Shaky Boots (Country Festival) which has been on hiatus since 2016.
Some of the headlining acts from Shaky Knees notably Incubus will also be performing at Innings festival in Tempe Phoenix, another of Sweetwood’s ventures. He is now offering sports fans the opportunity to catch some great acts whilst they’re in the area for events such as spring training which attracts hundreds of thousands of people each year.
Tickets for Shaky Knees went on sale Wednesday (11/14) at noon, and general, VIP, and platinum three-day options are also available. Don’t forget for the brave fans out there a Shaky Knees tattoo will permit free lifetime admission into a Shaky festival!
