The Smashing Pumpkins Shares Expansive New Song “Knights of Malta” from Comeback Album

Beloved alt-rock outfit Smashing Pumpkins have just shared “Knights of Malta,” an expansive new single from their upcoming record, Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1 / LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun. The track follows up “Solara” and “Silvery Sometimes (Ghosts),” the earlier singles from the record due on November 16.

This new incarnation of the band sees Corgan reuniting with most of the classic gang, with James Iha on guitar and Jimmy Chamberlin on drums, and guitarist Jeff Schroeder in place of D’arcy Wretzky. Nobody was really expecting Wretzky to be present for this reunion, given her and Corgan’s very public argument when the band had begun touring again, but it’s still a shame.

Following the album’s release, the band will begin touring for their 30th anniversary live shows beginning November 28th and ending December 8th. Though only 8 total gigs, any Smashing Pumpkins fan should be delighted at the opportunity.

The new album has received praise from an early review by Q magazine, pointing out its “moments of glorious burning distortion.”
