Piroshka is the new music project formed by members of 80’s/90’s bands Lush, Moose, Elastica and Modern English. The new super group, which was announced earlier in September has announced that their debut album, Brickbat, is on the way. Today, they have also shared the first single off the album, entitled, “Everlastingly Yours.” You can listen to the song down below.
The musicians that comprise Piroshka may be individual artists but all four members share a similar history which makes them coming together kind of perfect. Miki Berenyi, the frontwoman of the English rock band Lush started the project along with her partner, KJ “Moose” McKillop, who is the former guitarist of another English Indie-rock band Moose. The two are joined by their friends, bassist of Modern English, Mick Conroy and Justin Welch, who is the former drummer of Elastica.
The foundation of the band came from a Manchester show which was proven to be Lush‘s final show back in November of 2016. At the show, Conroy stepped in as the band’s bassist. Welch expressed that “We sounded great! Like a proper punk band, Mick brings a huge amount of enthusiasm and livens up the room, and I thought, this is the kind of band I want to be in again.” According to Conroy, he agreed by saying, “I’d seen Lush so many times, it was like playing with old friends. Miki agreed it was good fun too. And with Moose available we thought, let’s all have a bash, see what happens.”
Today, they’ve announced their debut album Brickbat, and shared their first ever single, “Everlastingly Yours.” The new song is the first single to come out of the upcoming album and for those who are familiar with the former bands may hear something familiar. The new song sounds like a mix of those bands each member once played in which will make fans happy and feel nostalgic of the past.
The meaning behind the band’s album, Brickbat, comes from the word for a missile, and according to the press release, hits the nail with the album’s “heavyweight lyrics if not the music’s gorgeous, bittersweet and euphoric pop.” Also, from the press release, is the inspiration behind the band’s name, which is inspired by a Hungarian folktale that is similar of Little Red Riding Hood. The album will be available to purchase and stream when it comes out February 15th via Bella Union. Check out the album cover and track list down below.
