Nigerian singer and songwriter Jacob Banks has announced a North American tour for his upcoming album Village. The good news is that it includes a stop at Union Transfer next February 20th. Banks just recently released “Glow Up”, his fifth single off of the unreleased album. He looks to build upon the major success he had with his last project The Boy Who Cried Freedom, an EP he put out in 2017.
Banks moved to Birmingham, England at the age of thirteen, spending his previous time in Nigeria. Jacob was always interested in the creative arts, which eventually led to him teaching himself how to play the piano. He then took the natural progression to writing his own songs, and then playing open mic nights where he almost immediately picked up a following of fans in England.
Banks prides himself on mixing the music of his Nigerian roots with the 808s and synths that are so popular today. His catchy and soulful music has made its way onto a number of different films, TV series, and video games including FIFA 15. It also led him to signing a record deal with Interscope records, after becoming the first unsigned artist to be featured on BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge. Banks has said that he looks to continue to rejuvenate the genre of soul in today’s music world, and is doing a very impressive job of it thus far.
