“Weird Al” Yankovic has revealed plans for his upcoming 2019 tour, titled Strings Attached. Labeled a “Rock and comedy symphonic experience” the tour will feature a symphony playing a variety of Yankovic’s hits.
According to Rolling Stone, the cover song genius announced the tour in an Instagram post and wrote that tour dates will be revealed in two weeks. He also went on to describe the tour and how it would be different from his 2018 tour, the Ridiculously Ill-Advised Vanity Tour.”
During his most recent tour, the performer decided to go for a stripped-down show and focused on some of his less known songs. For Strings Attached, Yankovic said that he will be bringing back the bombastic show, complete with the costumes and hits, such as his Michael Jackson “Beat It” parody, “Eat It.”
Yankovic also discussed the setup for his touring band. Joining him will be long-time bandmates, Jon “Bermuda” Schwartz, Steve Jay, Jim West and Ruben Valtierra. However, for the first time, he will be bringing along backup singers Lisa Popeil, Monique Donnelly and Scottie Haskell. All three women have worked on many of his studio albums but have never joined him on a tour.
According to Yankovic, he’s not going to bring an entire orchestra on the road. Instead, they plan on finding a local symphony during each tour date but will make up a band of local musicians if needed.
“No, we’re not cramming an orchestra on our bus – it’ll be a different orchestra in every city,” Yankovic wrote in his post. “Sometimes it will be a ‘branded’ local orchestra (like, say, the Colorado Symphony), and other times we’ll basically just be putting together our own orchestra with local musicians.
While Yankovic is planning a new tour he hasn’t promised any new music saying, “Inspiration could strike tomorrow and I might have something out next month. There’s no plan. It’s just going to be whenever it winds up being.”
His last album was his fourteenth studio album, Mandatory Fun, which was released in 2014. The album was the first of his records to top the charts, debuting at #1 on the Billboard 200.
Instead of making new music, Yankovic seems to be happy touring. He wrapped up his Ridiculously Ill-Advised Vanity Tour in June, where he played lesser-known songs and even did a cover of a Foo Fighters song “This Is A Call.”
He has also been seen performing with Weezer as they reintroduce the world to the Toto classic “Africa.” In August, he performed with Weezer during live performance and even appeared with the band during their music video for the song.
Tour dates for Strings Attached will be revealed on November 12.

Weeks after the announcement of the Strings Attached tour Pitchfork has revealed the full concert schedule. The tour will begin in June of 2019 and will continue up to September.
