Dave East @ Theatre of Living Arts 12/27

Harlem rapper Dave East is set to perform at the Theatre of Living Arts on his tour this winter. The show will be on December 27th at 8:00 PM. The tour is East’s first since dropping not one, but two projects in the last few months. His July mixtape Karma 2 was his best selling project yet, which the rapper followed by releasing his first album, a collaboration with fellow New York rapper Styles P.

East grew up with the intentions of playing in the NBA, and played alongside current pros such as Kevin Durant and Ty Lawson while in high school. It wasn’t until after some tumultuous times following high school that he found his calling in rap. East struggled with homelessness following a stint in jail, but eventually got his feet underneath him with the help of both music and religion after converting to Islam. East knew that he had a story to tell, and it came through in his music. Known for not holding back, or telling it how it is in his lyrics, East gained the attention of rap legend Nas who helped kick start his career back in 2014.

While working with Nas, East released the mixtape Black Rose, which finally helped him pick up the beginning of his now large and dedicated fan base. His latest work holds true to his roots, bringing heavy, aggressive bars that are almost reminiscent of the old days of New York hip hop. Despite his commercial success, East continues to stay true to himself and deliver the real, authentic, one of a kind music we love. Both Karma 2 and Beloved are hit projects that bring an energy built to be seen live.
