Cake Release First New Music in 7 Years with “Sinking Ship”

CAKE breaks their seven year hiatus with the release of their new single “Sinking Ship.” Listen to their new song here. The band is planning a series of physical and digital single releases that will culminate with a full-length album.

“The new CAKE song ‘Sinking Ship’ is a sobering meditation on the current human habitation of the planet,” says CAKE instrumentalist and backing vocalist Vince DiFiore. “Where do we go from here? It’s always worth contemplating.”

Accompanying the release is a brand new music video for “Sinking Ship,” directed and animated by the band’s longtime collaborator Owen Streeter at Head Cleaner Films.

“We are happy to be releasing new music; this time in the form of a series of singles,” says CAKE front man John McCrea. “Sinking Ship’ is quite pessimistic but somehow does not seem hyperbolic right now.”

All earnings from “Sinking Ship” will benefit the nonprofit organization Doctors Without Borders.

“CAKE is proud to be able to help out in securing real leadership for the United States,” McCrea said. “It is a critical time for the world, and it is more important than ever to find leaders capable of putting country above self-interest. Real greatness comes from community, cooperation and ethical leadership.”

This is the band’s first release since their 2011 record Showroom of Compassion, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard Top 200. Fresh off co-headlining US summer tour dates with Ben Folds that received raves in Rolling StoneConsequence of SoundBoston Globe and other publications nationwide, CAKE will celebrate the release of new material with headlining tour dates across the UK and Europe. The band will stop in major cities including Brixton, Manchester, Glasgow, Luxembourg and Paris amongst others. Check out tour dates here.
