Indie-Rock band Claypool Lennon Delirium has announced that their sophomore album, South of Reality, is set to be released on February 22nd, 2019. The new album follows their covers EP, Lime and Limpid Green, including covers of Pink Floyd’s “Astronomy Domine” and The Who’s “Boris Spider.” The band released their debut album Monolith of Phobos in 2016, with mxdwn calling the album “focused, sinister experimental rock.” Claypool Lennon Delirium features Primus bassist Les Claypool, and instrumentalist Sean Lennon.
Along with the album announcement, they released a new song from the album titled “Blood and Rockets,” a psychedelic rock track that is over six minutes long. The song provides synth heavy vocals and guitars. Check it out below.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Claypool discusses the lyrics of the song, stating that “the lascivious exploits of famed JPL rocket scientist Jack Parsons, the man who not only helped America get to the moon with liquid fuel technology, but was also a Magister Templi in Aleister Crowley’s cult, the Ordo Templi Orientis.” In the same interview, Claypool then talks about the writing and recording process of the album, which was over a span of two months in a studio in Sonoma County, CA.“Basically, it was the same setup in the same place. I am a creature of habit and have all my old vintage gear dialed in the way I like it, so I like to helm from the same spot.”
The band will also be playing a few west-coast gigs this coming winter, kicking off in San Diego, CA December 28th, with tickets going on sale Friday, October 26th. See the full list of dates below.
