Petal @ Rough Trade 1/25

Petal, which consists of sole member singer-songwriter Kiley Lotz, has announced a string of US tour dates for early in the new year along the eastern half of the country. The tour will kick off on January 1 in Cleveland and end on January 26 in Hamden, Connecticut, making stops along the way in Chicago, St. Louis, and Philadelphia as well as Brooklyn’s Rough Trade on January 25. Petal is currently on tour providing support for Shakey Graves as he makes his way through the UK and Europe. Petal will go on a headlining tour of the UK and Europe in 2019, following their US headlining tour.

The tour announcement arrives after the release of Petal’s sophomore LP, Magic Gone, which dropped this summer via Run For Cover. The album features singles “Better Than You” and “Tightrope” which are two standout, high-energy tracks of the album. The rest of the album delivers a slower tempo, echoing the likes of former touring mate Julien Baker. Lotz spoke of the influences working within the album, explaining how she wrote half of the album before receiving treatment for mental health issues and half of the album after receiving treatment. “I think those two parts of me are what kept me alive,” she said. Lotz is vulnerable and honest throughout the album’s tracks, baring herself for her audience and providing an accessible outlet for listeners.
