Beirut may be ready to release some new music, if a teaser on the band’s site is any indication. The band, who is lead by Zach Condon, last released an album in 2015, called No No No.
The video playing on the site is a Youtube Live video that’s essentially a loop of what is new music from the band. According to a tech-savvy internet sleuth, the source code for the page on their site includes the line: . Further investigation revealed this interview with an Italian publication called La Repubblica. The article was published in November of 2017 and includes a passage in which a new song is mentioned.
Roughly translated, here’s what the article said: “Over the years Beirut have used songs that bear the name of a city or geographical references…peering on the white board that they used to pin them changes to be made to the various pieces, abandoned in a corner of the recording room, yes clearly reads ‘Gallipoli.’ Stefano Manca brought the musicians around Salento, and just Gallipoli hit them: ‘It’s beautiful, but they have it said that in the summer it is unlivable because there are too many tourists. When we got there they welcomed the fireworks, and we saw people for road that marched. Then someone told us that it was of a procession.’ Salento is the peninsula that forms the heel of Italy’s boot-shape. Gallipoli is a city on the western coast of the peninsula.
