Oli Herbert, the guitarist for and co-founder of the Massachusetts metalcore outfit All That Remains, has tragically been found dead, after being reported missing, in a pond in his Connecticut home at the age of 44.
“We were devastated to learn that Oli Herbert, our friend, guitar player, and founding member of All That Remains, has passed away,” wrote the band in a somber post on social media. “Oli was an incredibly talented guitarist and song writer who defined Rock and Metal from the Northeast. His impact on the genres and our lives will continue indefinitely… The band and family request that you please respect their privacy and remember Oli by celebrating the great music he made.”
Herbert had been a member of the band since the band’s inception in 1998, along with vocalist Phil Labonte. He had played with the group and performed on all nine of the band’s studio records. He contributed to the band’s upcoming ninth record Victim of the New Disease, which is due to be released on November 9th.
Just earlier this year, Herbert also debuted a signature Rhoads model electric guitar in partnership with Jackson Guitars, going as far as to say “This guitar is the culmination of the almost 30 years that I’ve been playing the instrument.”
In light of his passing, Herbert’s widow asked for privacy regarding the event in a Facebook post: “Hello everyone this is Beth, Oli’s widow. Thank you all for the kind thoughts and words. I don’t want to go into what happened until we have a complete picture, but as soon as we do there will be a statement from the family on this page. In the meantime, please respect our privacy as there are still relatives being informed of Oli’s passing. Thank you.”
