Independent record label Anticon has announced the final release from Alias, Less is Orchestra, a collaborative album with Doseone, due out November 2. The work is Alias’ last fully realized project prior to his untimely passing earlier this year. Brendan Whitney, known as Alias, passed away following a heart attack on March 30, 2018, leaving a wife, Jenn, and two daughters, Aiko and Inara. Whitney, who formed Anticon with rapper Sole in 1998, released nine solo albums including the critically acclaimed Pitch Black Prism in 2014.
Less is Orchestra comes 20 years after Alias & Doseone’s first collaborative efforts as members of the cult classic group Deep Puddle Dynamics, a milestone in 20 years of Anticon as a collective and record label. The album will be a vinyl pressing limited to 500 units (150 units in grey vinyl) and includes a download code. The record is mastered by Daddy Kev of Low End Theory, and features the single “The Deadener.” Pre-orders can be made here, with all proceeds going to Alias’ surviving family.
