According to Pitchfork, Thom Yorke, who is currently working on his upcoming album Susperia, has released another new song, titled “Hands Off The Antarctic.” This song will not be included on his forthcoming work, Susperia, and is a completely separate work. Yorke partnered with the environmental organization Greenpeace and their efforts to protect the Antarctic Ocean. The organization is pushing to create a 700,000 square mile sanctuary that will protect the Antarctic Wildlife. Thom Yorke created this song in an effort to promote the Greenpeace campaign and stated in an interview “there are some places on this planet that are meant to stay raw and wild and not destroyed by humanity’s footprint.” Yorke went on to say “this track is about stopping the relentless march of those heavy footsteps. The Antarctic is a true wilderness and what happens there affects us all. That’s why we should protect it.”
The four- minute instrumental is combined with black and white footage of Antarctic wildlife in an attempt to show off the raw and wild atmosphere of the Antarctic. The constant electric thuds were described by York as “the relentless march of humanities footprint.” The newest release can be heard in the player below. More from Thom Yorke is expected soon as his next album will be featured as the soundtrack to the remake of the horror film Suspiria. The next album, which includes recent releases “Volk” and “Has Ended,” is planned for an October 26 release.
