Friendly Fires Debuts New Single “Heaven Let Me In” Co-Produced by Disclosure

After seven long years, fans of Friendly Fires finally have news of a new album after the band released their second new single of 2018, “Heaven Let Me In.” Along with the new song the band confirmed that they were working on a new album that will be released sometime in 2019.

Made up of frontman Ed Macfarlane, Edd Gibson and Jack Savidge, the trio made their name after the release of their self-titled debut album in 2009. The upcoming album will be the first time the British indie rock band have released an album since their 2011 sophomore album, Pala. Since then the band has shown signs of life by releasing singles but left fans wondering about their next full album.

In 2014, Friendly Fires dropped the single, “Before Your Eyes,” but fans had to wait four years for the bands to release their most recent song in April 2018, “Love Like Waves.” The new album will be heavily influenced by the band’s partnership with the English music duo, Disclosure. This is the second time the two groups have worked together. Macfarlane contributed vocals on Disclosure’s 2013 debut album, Settle, for the track “Defeated No More.”

Disclosure also released two new tracks this year, “Moonlight” and “Where Angels Fear to Tread,” in August. In a press release, Friendly Fires revealed that “Heaven Let Me In” was written in one night in the North London studio of Disclosure.

When describing the track Macfarlane said “’Heaven Let Me In’ is a song about being comfortable in your own skin. When you stop trying so hard and embrace your imperfections then opportunities arise and doors open.” The song does have a different song compared to “Love Like Waves”, and the electronic influence of Disclosure can be heard in the track. While the tune does have a more modern feel, it still stays true to the sound of Friendly Fires.

As of now, the band has not released a full music video for the song, but with an album approaching fans can expect more news and music from the band heading into 2019.
