Fresh off signing with Bloodshot Records over the Summer, Laure Jane Grace and the Devouring Mothers have shared the second song from their debut album Bought to Rot, available in stores and online Friday November 9. Back in August the first song, “Apocalypse Now (and Later)” was released. Chicago based Laura Jane Grace & the Devouring Mothers consist of singer/sogwriter Laura Jane Grace of the punk rock band Against Me!, drummer Atom Willard previously of Social Distortion and The Offispring, and bassist Marc Jacob Hudson who is also the sound engineer for Against Me!.
Bought to Rot was written by Grace as she toured through Spain, Amsterdam and Australia as well as her hometown of Chicago, also home to Bloodshot Records. Inspired by Tom Petty’s debut solo album Full Moon Fever, the album showcases an eclectic collection of Grace’s style and she recently told Rolling Stone “My approach musically to the record was that I wanted it to feel like a mixtape”. She wrote the album largely as an expression of personal experience and it showcases her evolution as a musician.
As she sings the lyrics “Your mine, your mine, I’m yours, torn between two lovers”, “Airplane Song”, streaming now on Youtube, tells the story of a love triangle and being ditched before boarding a plane. The song features fast guitar riffs and chaotic rhythm in traditional punk rock style.
