According to Pitchfork, at the ripe age of 78, Italian producer Giorgio Moroder is ready to embark on a live tour for the first time ever. The synthpop legend, who recently performed at The Globe Theater in Los Angeles, announced a string of European dates for next year, 2019, where he will be playing piano, vocoder and synths, along with a live band and vocalists. The concerts will also include a synchronized video of Donna Summer performing. In a statement quoted by The Guardian, Moroder states “It is something I have always wanted to do. Fans kept reaching out to me, asking if I would ever do a real tour.” The wait is finally over for those faithful fans. The full list of tour dates can be found below.
Moroder has had a long, successful career which began in the mid-1960s. He released his first album in 1969 titled That’s Bubblegum – That’s Giorgio. He would find success later in his career when he released many songs that would change the face of pop. Even in his later years, he would still find success, collaborating with Daft Punk on their album, Random Access Memories. After appearing with Daft Punk, Moroder would then go on to release Déjà vu in 2015, which is his most recent release album. He would also go on to release “Good For Me” in late 2016.
As someone that greatly affected how pop music is today, it was only a matter of time that Moroder would come back into the scene. He stated “today, DJs and music producers have become the superstars of popular dance music, so the time feels right.” The dates for Giorgio Moroder’s upcoming tour can be found below.
