Kanye West Deleted His Twitter and Instagram Accounts Over the Weekend

After a week of controversy, Kanye West has deactivated his Twitter and Instagram accounts. According to an article from Pitchfork, West deactivated his accounts on Saturday after being criticized for his comments on Trump, the 13th amendment and his recent Instagram posts.

As of now, no one is sure why the artist decided to step away from social media, but some suspect it might be due to the backlash he received over his support of President Trump.

The most recent controversy began on the 44th season premiere of Saturday Night Live, where West was scheduled to perform alongside Lil Pump. The performance gained mixed reviews from critics, and fans took to Twitter to complain about the absence of West’s new album Yandhi, which was supposed to drop after the SNL performance.

However, the biggest news came as it was revealed that West decided to go on a pro-Trump monologue as the show went off the air. In a video from the audience, West can be seen wearing a “Make America Great Again” or MAGA hat, while rambling at the audience about the Trump, Democrats and racism.

West later said that he was bullied by the cast for wearing his MAGA hat when he was backstage at SNL.

“They bullied me backstage,” West said, “They said, ‘don’t go out there with that hat on. They bullied me backstage. They bullied me! And then they say I’m in a sunken place.”

Cast member Pete Davidson responded to West’s claims on the show’s Weekend Update. Davidson can be seen on the video awkwardly standing behind West while the rapper addresses the audience.

“I wish I bullied you,” Davidson said, “I wish I suggested that, you know, it might upset some people, like, your wife or every black person ever. You know?”

Doubling down on his support of the president, West later took to Instagram to post a selfie of himself wearing a MAGA hat with the caption:

“this represents good and America becoming whole again.  We will no longer outsource to other countries. We build factories here in America and create jobs.  We will provide jobs for all who are free from prisons as we abolish the 13th amendment. Message sent with love.”

West later stated that the 13th Amendment was “slavery in disguise.” His comments drew scorn from fellow artists, including Snoop Dogg and Lana Del Rey.

West’s departure from Twitter and Instagram comes as fans await his upcoming album Yandhi. Lost in the shuffle the album was pushed back to a November 23 release date. West has said that he wanted more time to work on it and that he wants to return to Africa to work on the album.

As of now, there have been no updates on what West’s radio silence means for his ninth studio album, but fans will have to wait for Black Friday to find out.
