A new album from Thomas Giles has been announced and is set to release on November 9 of 2018. This will be Giles fourth solo studio album and will be titles Don’t Touch The Outside. Along with the announcement of the album, Giles released a single that will be included on the album titled “Milan” and features Ulver’s lead vocalist Kristoffer Rygg. Giles described the upcoming album as his attempt to create a journey for those that choose to listen. He went on to say “It touches on many new aspects of my musical mind and it’s another step towards me finding the sound of Thomas Giles. I wanted to structure the album to make you very comfortable and uneasy within a few minutes of each other…the battle between beauty and noise.” Along with Kristoffer Rygg, the album will include appearances from Giles’s Between The Buried and Me band-mate Blake Richardson, Lerous’s Einar Solberg and Candira’s Carley Coma. This album comes almost two years after his last album Velcro Kid.
The first release from the album, “Milan” combines synths and string to create a Pink Floyd-esque canvas and combines that with a rich blend of vocals from Giles and Rygg. Giles stated that Milan was a slow tune written with one of his biggest musical influences: Kristoffer Rygg. When speaking of the inspiration of the song, Giles went on to say “I really channeled old soul ballads for this song. I attempted to make the simple and stripped instruments compliment the vulnerable lyrics that speak of hiding our emotions.” The music video for the track has also been released. The video is almost entirely in black and white, with the only other color used being red. The video is made up of many different shots of Rygg, some candles, a stream and a mannequin.
