Secret Machines Announces Release of Ten Silver Drops Expanded Edition and Share Rare Gillian Welch Cover of “Everything Is Free”

Alternative / indie rock outfit Secret Machines has just announced that they will be releasing an expanded edition vinyl reissue of their 2006 sophomore LP Ten Silver Drops via Run Out Groove, accepting orders between now and October 9th for only a week. In anticipation of the release, a Gillian Welch cover of “Everything Is Free,” included on the vinyl reissue, was unveiled.

The album has been out of print for over 10 years, so fans and listeners are no doubt hyped about the opportunity to grab a vinyl release of the record. The expanded edition will include, alongside the original album, a bonus LP of B-sides and rarities that was recorded at Allaire Studios. Each double LP set will come pressed on 180g vinyl, coming “in a deluxe gatefold tip-on Stoughton sleeve.”

The record has been out of print since its original vinyl release in 2006 with second hand copies being nearly unattainable. To be similarly valuable, the release will be pressed and numbered to a limited quantity based on total orders.

The alternative rock trio formed in 2000 in Dallas, consisting of brothers Brandon and Benjamin Curtis, and Josh Garza, taking on the “space rock” tag with a unique perspective. They released three albums between 2004 and 2008, Now Here is Nowhere, Ten Silver Bells, and Secret Machines, all of which were fairly well received.

The band was reportedly a personal favorite of the late David Bowie, and toured with artists as beloved as Spiritualized, Interpol, Oasis, The Foo Fighters, and Kings of Leon.

Benjamin Curtis went on to form dream pop indietronica outfit School of Seven Bells alongside Alejandra Deheza to great success before tragically passing away in 2013 due to lymphoma.

Ten Silver Drops is a very special album for me,” said Garza about the upcoming release. “I feel it was a great time for the band and recording at Allaire Studios was quite the experience. The songs are strong and our sense of experimentation comes through on the whole album. We were always trying to “push the envelope” in terms of song structure and overall sonics. On one hand we were being influenced by our love for Eno and all things experimental, on the other hand was our love for The Beatles.”
