As we slowly wrap up the 2018 year, everyone’s favorite English goth-rock band, The Cure, is gearing up to take over 2019’s festival circuit. The band recently celebrated their 40th anniversary but that doesn’t mean that the band is looking towards retirement, this according to Consequence of Sound. 2019 appears to be entirely booked for the Cure as they rotate from one festival to the next including a possible appearance Glastonbury, which is still up in the air.
The exact festivals that the Cure will perform at is still uncertain, though it is clear that they will be mostly those set in the UK as well as Europe. For those festival junkies as well as Cure followers, get ready to be unavailable to your family and friends for most of next year.
Robert Smith went to his social media page and announced to his fans saying that, “We will be headlining around 20 festivals next summer – mostly in Europe,” Smith posted on his Twitter feed detailing the band’s future plans which Smith added, “when we get them.” Check out the post below.
The Cure celebrated their 40th with a set of major concerts, including a headline appearance at the London’s Meltdown Festival, which Smith himself curated as well as a massive one-day event at Hyde Park in London. The anniversary show featured a variety of musicians coming together in honor of the legendary band including acts such as Interpol, Goldfrapp, Slowdive, Ride, the Twilight Sad, and Editors.
Back in April, it was announced by both Pitchfork and mxdwn that the Cure is working on new material and that they were heading into the studio to curate new demos. In an interview with BBC 6 Music, Smith expressed that, “I’ve listened to more new music in the last six months than I ever have,” said Smith. “I’ve suddenly fallen in love with the idea of writing new songs, so it’s had a really good effect on me.” New music from the Cure? The inner goth-rock child in all of us is screaming for joy.
