Minnesota based conscious rapper Brother Ali has announced that he will be celebrating the 15th anniversary of Shadows on the Sun with a U.S. fall tour. The record served as a breakthrough LP, receiving much critical acclaim as well as public recognition.
The 13-date trek will kick off on the first of November in D.C., and will stop in a variety of cities across the East Coast and West Coast (with four dates in California), along with stops in Texas, Illinois, and of course Minnesota, before wrapping up on December 22 in Denver, Colorado.
On the website for Rhymesayers Entertainment, Brother Ali’s record label, he reflects on the album’s legacy, saying that he’d “still put it up with anything that was released around that time, anything from the early 2000s, including The Blueprint or whatever else.”
“Being Albino, the sun is a major challenge for me,” Ali expounds on the meaning of the album’s title. “What I’m saying [with the title] is that all the factors in the world that feel oppressive to me, this gift that God gave me, will give me the ability to overcome everything.”
His latest record was 2017’s All the Beauty in This Whole Life, his sixth full-length, which received a fair amount of praise as well.
