Experimental rockers 65daysofstatic are back with another zany composition, “Z1” which the band has released through their website. The song begins with a flurry of stomping electronic drum beats until a hyper-speed drum machine beat takes over. While there are plenty of gentle melodies scattered throughout the song, the majority of the track consists of warped synth lines and ambient noise that recalls some of the best work from the likes of Aphex Twin and other similar acts. The band had been dropping hints on social media recently that something new was in the works, but fans of the group will be pleasantly surprised with the new song.
65daysofstatic last released a new album back in 2013 with the awesome Wild Light. The last recording the band did was the soundtrack to the video game No Man’s Sky in 2016, which saw the band become embroiled in controversy after it appeared that Universal muted the soundtrack to players of the game.
65daysofstatic will be embarking on a short tour of Europe this fall, where they will be performing a new experimental set each night, which promises to be one of the most interesting concert experiences of the year.
