Pussy Riot member Nika Nikulshina was detained in Downtown Moscow, along with her friend earlier today. According to Pitchfork, they were detained by police and “anti-extremism agents” while driving Downtown. The group shared the news via Twitter, with the tweet stating: “Our activist Nika says hi to everyone from behind bars of a Moscow police station – she will be spending the night here until a court hearing tomorrow. The girls have been arrested in their car for absolutely NOTHING. Moscow police is still mad after the World Cup action.” Fellow band member Peter Verzilov was arrested by police after leaving his home and it has yet to be known whether or not he will be kept overnight at the police station.
Nikulshina and Verzilov were recently released from their July 30th arrest for rushing the field with other members Olga Kuracheva and Olga Pakhtusova at the 2018 World Cup final in old-school police uniforms. It resulted in the members receiving fifteen days in Russian jail, and being prohibited from attending sporting events for three years. Member Nadia Tolokonnikova penned an open letter titled “Putin v. kids” and talked about the challenges Pavlikova and her family face during her lock-up in Russian Prison. A video titled Freedom Unicorn was also released to pay homage to Pavlikova. The video includes a pink screen with a huge amount of unicorn, seal, and baby animal pictures.
