Tori Kelly announced a North American headlining tour this fall to promote her new album of gospel-inspired music. The tour kicks off October 18 at The Tabernacle in Atlanta and will feature places of worship along the way, including New York City’s Riverside Church in Harlem on October 30. Her latest album, Hiding Place, will release on September 14 via Capitol Records. The album marks the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter’s latest release since her 2015 debut album, Unbreakable Smile, which followed her popular 2013 EP, Foreword. The California-native was brought up on a variety of musical influences, including pop and R&B acts as well as a healthy dose of gospel music which plays into her latest album and tour. Hiding Place was recorded primarily at the studio of gospel legend, Kirk Franklin, with half of the songs penned by Franklin himself and the rest created as a collaboration between Kelly and Franklin.
The “Hiding Place Tour” marks the first headlining tour Kelly has embarked on since her 2016 tour in support of her debut album. Unbreakable Smile hit number two on Billboard’s Top 200 which landed Kelly her Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. Kelly first reached musical success even before her debut full length album, however. After auditioning for American Idol and failing to make the top 24, Kelly took to YouTube and posted videos of her performances. Her online following grew and led her to release an album, Handmade Songs by Tori Kelly, digitally. Kelly recorded the album herself and played most of the instruments used. The album made enough of a splash to land Kelly a spot as number nine on Billboard Heatseekers Chart. She eventually went on to open for Jewel and Ed Sheeran and later signed to Capitol Records before her 2013 EP dropped. Now, Kelly returns to her roots for her latest passion project, pouring herself into her gospel album and powerful upcoming tour.
