Kitten the indie rock band from Los Angeles, CA has dropped new music already. This new music comes right after the other new releases from this year, “I Did it!”, “Strange Embrace,” and “Pink Champagne.”
All of these singles led up to the release of the band’s EP, Pink Champagne. This is album is the most pop punk 80s inspired album that the band has released. The band was inspired by the Go-Go’s, The Motels, and Siouxsie and the Banshees. The band is back with a double single for all their fans. The two new singles are almost complete opposites.
“Secrets,” one of the two new releases, was inspired by lead singer Chloe Chaidez’s parents divorce. This song is heavy but one can’t hear that upon first listen. It keeps the power of emotion with the strong synth and drums. The piano and the lofty vocals speak only of ballad; the song is on the verge of a power ballad. Chloe Chaidez the lead singer brings in the sweeping vocals. Complete with a guitar solo, the band has created an 80s effect full of drama and echoing vocals.
“Mercury” is quite the opposite of “Secrets.” “Mercury” is catchy by nature; it’s in it’s DNA. The song is significantly disco and synth pop. According to a report by Stereogum, the song is about the artist who, in the end and after all the hurt, decides to move on and move forward. She is “throwing a party to dance on the ashes of things lost.”
