The ongoing legal dispute between Kesha and superstar producer Dr. Luke (Lukasz Gottwald) has reached another surprising turn of events as an unsealed deposition from Katy Perry shows that the singer denied being sexually assaulted by Dr. Luke, as reported by Variety. Perry was brought to testify as Kesha had sent a text messaged to Lady Gaga about an alleged incident between Perry and Dr. Luke. Lady Gaga herself has already been brought in for a deposition.
Perry’s attorneys tried to file an emergency motion to seal her deposition earlier this month, but that did not work out as the transcript was released. Perry also denies having any type of romantic relationship with Dr. Luke whatsoever.
Dr. Luke’s legal team believes this revelation is important for his counter-claim against Kesha; he believes that Perry’s deposition helps prove that he did nothing to Kesha and that the lawsuit is a conspiracy by Kesha, her management, and her managers Irving Azoff and Ken Levitan to get her out of her record deal with Sony (something that has been rejected by the courts). Dr. Luke’s team claim that this conspiracy has irreparably damaged his image and that is the basis of his counter-suit.
The producer’s legal team provided several emails from the unsealed records that they believe proves conspiracy on the part of Kesha’s team as well as exonerates Dr. Luke of previous allegations.
Kesha first filed her lawsuit in 2014, claiming sexual assault and battery, sexual harassment, gender violence, civil harassment, unfair business and intentional negligent infliction of emotional distress were inflicted upon her by Dr. Luke. Her allegations included instances in which she claimed Dr. Luke coerced her, drugged and raped her, extorted money, and blackmailed her.
