KDKA Radio to Raise Mental Health Awareness with Two-Hour Commerical-Free Broadcast Featuring Pearl Jam, Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park and More

In honor of National Suicide Prevention Week, KDKA Radio and a plethora of talented musicians are launching the week by participating in a two-hour commercial-free broadcast. The broadcast special will air on September 9th at 7.A.M. worldwide via Radio.com and Entercom and will be hosted by on-air personality BJ Shea of Seattle’s 99.1 KISW FM. According to Pitchfork, the broadcast will feature “Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready and Stone Gossard, Alessia Cara, Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda, and Stone Temple Pilots.” Other acts include Stephan Jenkins of Third Eye Blind, Jared Leto, Bebe Rexha, Charlie Puth, and many more.

The special is a part of the year-long “I’m Listening” campaign for mental health and suicide prevention and will also feature clinical psychologist and NowMattersNow.org CEO Dr. Ursula Whiteside and Dr. Chris Nowinksi, co-founder and executive director of Concussion Legacy Foundation. Those who listen will be given the opportunity to participate in a live call-in option and interactive website. Partcipant and Grammy award winner Alessia Cara made a statement in regards to the campaign. She states: “I’ve recently dealt with anxiety – and understand what it was. I definitely want to reach as many people as I can, and will do so by partnering with Entercom and so many influential names connected to the cause. Hopefully, if I talk about mental health, it’ll help other people to talk about it… we’re all a lot more similar than we think we are.” The campaign will also include Public Service Announcement and on-air promotions.

Pearl Jam was recently under fire from the Republican party after the band used a controversial poster to promote their recent concert in Montana in support of Jon Tester. The picture depicted burning the White House and a corpse of Donald Trump being eaten by a bald eagle, with two massive letters, “P” and “J.” The National Republican Senatorial Committee made a statement about the poster, stating “…Celebrities have talked about killing the president or blowing up the White House. Now, a rock band comes to Montana, throws a concert to support Tester – and promotes it using a vulgar, despicable poster featuring President Trump’s dead corpse on the White House lawn. Yet, Tester himself remained silent for days. Even worse? Tester’s campaign used the concert to raise campaign cash, charging up to $500 for VIP tickets. How much dirty money did Tester raise? And if he won’t he do the right thing and give it back, doesn’t that tell us all we need to know about the real Jon Tester?”

Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda recently announced his first solo headlining tour in support of his solo record Post-Traumatic. The tour will kick off October 10th in Montreal and will make its way across North America including stops in Los Angeles, Denver, and Boston.
