Texas blues-rock band, Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears have announced the release of a new album due out September 7th. Along with the announcement they are premiering the video for “Culture Vulture” their first single. The video shows Lewis & The Honeybears performing in a cramped studio space while down the hall an obnoxious, preppy boy band plays to a crowd. Watch the video below.
The band recorded The Difference Between Me & You, their fifth studio album, in their hometown of Austin. Still keeping the southern soul, gritty blues and rock n’ roll sound, Lewis opted for a different more socially conscious and political direction with his lyrics this time.
“ ‘Culture Vulture’ is a song about those who consume everything from the masses to create their identity while thinking it’s their won culture and influence that is under attack from others they perceive as different,” Joe Lewis told Afro Punk. “They think some kind of urban revolution is needed to preserve what’s theirs, which allows the Powers that be to play off their fear mongering and watch the world burn.”
“Online you stay all night/What they want they already have/Tiki torches & haircuts blaming somebody you never meet/ That’s porno for the agency,” Lewis sings on the track.
The latest album follows the critically acclaimed album Backlash, released in 2017. Lewis formed the band in 2007 and according to a previous article, Esquire magazine named them one of the “Ten Best Bands to Break Out at 2009s SXSW Festival.”
The band will embark on a North American tour this fall in celebration of their new release. Scroll down for tour dates.
