Big Black Announced Remastered Version of 1987 Classic Songs About Fucking for October 2018 Release

Everyone’s favorite producer and indie music curmudgeon Steve Albini has led a few great bands in his own right, most notably and recently Shellac. However, one band that really broke ground in the Chicago underground that was also led by Albini was Big Black. Throughout the ’80s they released blistering, punishing slabs of technically-adept noise rock, seemingly daring the listener to venture further with provocative lyrics and dark themes. The band’s second album was Songs About Fucking and it was released in 1987 — now, Albini and Bob Weston have remastered this beast and present it for your audio pleasures on October 19, 2018.

This is actually the fifth piece of vinyl to be remastered by the production duo (Weston wasn’t in Big Black, but is in Shellac). Previously released offerings include Atomizer the band’s debut LP, and a trio of EPs: Bulldozer, Racer-X and Headache.

Big Black was founded by Albini in 1982 along with guitarist Santiago Durango and bassist Jeff Pezzati, who were both members of Naked Raygun. They, along with their founder Albini, became known for visceral commentary on many of the taboos of society — with a particularly disdain for corporate rock. He’s a purist to be sure, even heavily criticizing Sonic Youth (in his own idiosyncratic way) for signing with Geffen back in the 90s.
