Art Brut Release First New Song in 7 Years with the Spastic “Wham! Bang! Pow! Let’s Rock Out!”

UK art punks with a pretty appropriate name Art Brut, haven’t been heard from in a while. Seven long years to be exact. Now, according to Brooklyn Vegan, the band is back with a reminder of why we’ve missed them so much over the past few years. Their new track is called “Wham, Bang, Pow, Let’s Rock Out” and it has all of the spastic energy you’d come to expect from a song with that title and a band with a legacy like Art Brut.

According to Pitchfork, the song is included in the band’s first album in the same duration, which will also be called Wham, Bang, Pow, Let’s Rock Out. That same article states that Jasper Future and Mikey Breyer left the band after their previous release and were replaced by drummer Charlie Layton of the Wedding Present and guitarist Toby McFarlane. There doesn’t appear to be a release date for this album yet.

Frontman Eddie Argos had this to say about the extremely enthused song: ” This is a song about making new friends, I hope it works out… Watch the fuck out! We’re back and very rejuvenated. Art Brut are coming to your party whether you want us to or not. We did not want to go home yet, there were still quite a few people we hadn’t met. See you soon.”

The band’s last album was released in 2011, titled Brilliant! Tragic!. It was produced by Frank Black of Pixies, which was his second time guiding a record for the band (his first being their album Art Brut vs. Satan).

The group broke through quickly, with their debut album Bang Bang Rock & Roll finding its way onto a number of critic’s best-of lists in 2005.

UPDATE (8/22): Art Brut have released a video clip for their comeback single “Wham! Bang! Pow! Let’s Rock Out.” It features shots of animals, well, rocking out. Check it out below:
