The Devil Makes Three Shares Live Performance Video for “Bad Idea” Off New Record Chains Are Broken Out August 2018

The Devil Makes Three is an Americana band from Santa Cruz California. The trio which consists of guitarist Pete Bernhard, upright bassist Lucia Turino, and guitarist and tenor banjo player Cooper McBean. Today, Billboard has premiered the video for the trio’s first single off the new record entitled, “Bad Idea.” The video for the new song features the band’s recent performance at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre on May 25th.

The Devil Makes Three frontman, Pete Bernhard told the publication, “I think we just finally figured out after all this time how to record as a band. We were like, ‘Ok, that’s how it sounds live,’ which was big for us because we’re such a live band. We wanted to capture something more, and I think when we left the studio we were like, ‘God, we did it,’ which felt great.” Bernhard continued, “We’re always trying to be a rock band. Our approach to string band music has always been sort of punk rock; We’re playing string band music, but not in the traditional way.”

The video is a cool inside look at the band as they set up for a live show and giving fans the intimate viewing of that performance. It is a nice gift for fans who are unable to find themselves at a live show.

Chains Are Broken will feature 11 songs, all produced by Ted Hutt (Gaslight Anthem, Flogging Molly) and recorded at the Sonic Ranch Studios in El Paso, Texas. The album is The Devil Makes Three’s first that consist of original material since their 2013 record, I’m a Stranger Here, which landed on the Billboard Top 200 when it first was released. Their new album follows their critically acclaimed 2016 collection of covers called Redemption & Ruin. The record, Chains Are Broken uses the trio’s signature lineup unlike their previous tradition of using different collaborators. This time around, the album is all about its three founding members with one additional help. The trip invited touring drummer Stefan Amidon to help, and, according to the press release, “to power the bulk of the percussion and his presence remains most amplified as the band seamlessly translated the spirit of their must-see live show into a studio recording.”

The album, Chains Are Broken, is set to come out August 24th According to the press release, the record will come out and be available on compact disc, cross digital retailers, standard black vinyl, as well as a limited edition cream & navy blue split colored vinyl LP available at Independent Retailers.  Fans can pre-order their copy of Chains Are Broken through New West Records.
