High on Fire and Municipal Waste Announce The Speed of The Wizard Fall 2018 Co-Headlining Tour Dates

High on Fire and Municipal Waste have announced they will join forces to co-headline a 17-date U.S. tour this coming fall. According to Loudwire, “The Speed of Wizard” tour will begin November 2 in Dallas, Texas and will feature bands Toxic Holocaust and Haunt. Additionally, the tour will host a special performance by Gwar November 10 in Richmond, VA.

Municipal Waste frontman Tony Foresta, Consequence of Sound reports, says of the upcoming tour, “We’re really excited to be teaming up with our brothers in High on Fire to put together this sweet package of killer bands. We couldn’t be more pleased with how everything came together. Stoked to travel with our old friends and one of our favorite thrash bands Toxic Holocaust as well as getting blown away by Haunt every night. See you soon!!!”

Thrash juggernauts Municipal Waste will be touring in support of their sixth studio album Slime and Punishment, released in 2017, while High on Fire will be touring behind their recently announced record, Electric Messiah, out October 5.

Frontman Matt Pike says the album and the title track were inspired by late Motorhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister, saying, “When Lemmy was still alive, I always got compared to Lemmy,” explained Pike in a press release, “so I had this dream where he got pissed at me. He gave me a bunch of shit, basically, and was hazing me: not that he didn’t approve of me, but like I was being hazed.”

He adds, “The song is me telling the world that I could never fill Lemmy’s shoes, because Lemmy’s Lemmy. I wanted to pay homage to him in a great way. And it turned out to be such a good title that the guys said we should call the album Electric Messiah.

UPDATE (11/2): It came to light that the heavy metal band, High on Fire, had to drop out of the Speed of the Wizard tour due to a medical emergency. The band posted on their official Facebook post earlier this week explaining that the reason behind the cancelation is due to frontman Matt Pike getting his toe amputated.

“Matt has a medical emergency culminating in the partial amputation of one of his toes,” notes the statement. “The scheduling of this procedure is immediate and the recovery time will overlap our intended tour with [Municipal Waste]. We will, unfortunately, be unable to participate in this tour but will be back stronger than ever in 2019!”

The end of the year tour begins today in Dallas, Texas at Canton Hall. Scroll down to see the full Facebook post.
