At a recent tour stop in Toronto, Father John Misty (real name Josh Tillman) was joined on stage by Jenny Lewis to perform a duet of the new FJM song “God’s Favorite Customer,” as reported by Pitchfork. FJM was in the middle of performing the song when Lewis joined him on stage for the second half of the track. Lewis and Tillman have been friends for number of years, and he even wrote the band bio for Lewis’ new group Nice as Fuck back in 2016. Lewis has also been touring extensively this summer, but there is no word yet about the status of new record from her, as her last solo release came in the form of 2014’s excellent The Voyager.
FJM is currently in the midst of an extensive world tour in support of his incredible new album God’s Favorite Customer, which has been garnering high praise from the music community for its direct and emotional tone. The record has also spawned some eye-catching music videos for the first couple of singles, ranging from outrageous psychedelia to stop-motion animation.
Tillman first broke into the indie-folk scene in the mid-2000’s before he joined the legendary Fleet Foxes as their drummer before leaving the group in 2012. Since then he has been recording under the Father John Misty moniker, developing a signature style of indie folk-rock with ironic and self-conscious lyrics.
