Courtney Love Joins The Smashing Pumpkins at New Jersey Mega-Concert to Play Hole Classics “Celebrity Skin” and “Malibu”

During their 30th anniversary show last Thursday at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey, The Smashing Pumpkins were joined onstage by Courtney Love to perform songs from the 1998 Hole album Celebrity Skin, Pitchfork reports. The songs included “Malibu” and “Celebrity Skin” which Corgan co-wrote with Love and Hole guitarist Eric Erlandson.

The “Shiny And Oh So Bright” reunion tour marks the collaboration between long-feuding members. During a June interview on Howard Stone, Consequence of Sound reports, Corgan spoke about his reunification with guitarist James Iha and drummer Jimmy Chamberlain, saying, “I looked across the room at James… it was like looking through a tunnel back through all those years and I just was like, ‘I can’t believe we’re back in the same room and we’re making music. This is so cool.’”

Chamberlain says of the reconciliation, “I always said we never really disagreed about music. There was cultural differences and differences of opinion, but as far as the music goes we’ve always had common ground… If you spend that much time with somebody there’s gonna be bumps in the road. but as far as the music went, we always had a commonality, a common vision, which really was kind of the saving grace of all of our careers.”

The Pumpkins anniversary show also featured performances by Mark McGrath, Chino Moreno, Peter Hook and Davey Havok. The group continue their reunion tour with upcoming stops in Pittsburgh, Detroit and Chicago and are expected to release two EPs this year.
