Deafheaven Release New Video for Mellow Song “Night People” Featuring Chelsea Wolfe and Announce Summer 2018 Tour Dates Featuring Diiv

San Francisco post-metal band Deafheaven have released a new music video for the track “Night People,” featuring singer-songwriter Chelsea Wolfe. In addition, the band released tour dates with indie rock band DIIV, which will begin in Tuscon, Arizona on October 20th and end in Santa Cruz, California, on November 17th.

“Night People,” features dark and abstract visuals with Wolfe’s face fading in and out of Deafheaven singer George Clark’s face throughout the video. Various other visuals float around the background from flowers, to one of the band’s members, before the video ends with Clark standing isolated in a forest-like area lit with blue light.

This track is atypical for the band as the vocals and piano melodies are more calm in contrast to their typical heavy post-metal sound. The group’s atmospheric sound and nuances remain, yet the drums buildup to a subtle drop and piano line, rather than an aggressive explosion of sound.

Clark’s vocals follow this tone, rather than delivering with his normal screaming tone, which follows throughout most of the band’s tracks, he delivers with a restrained, somewhat operatic cadence. This tone matches the visuals for the video, which was directed by Wolfe’s touring band mate Ben Chisholm.

In June, Deafheaven released their album Ordinary Corrupt Human Love, which was their second record to be released on the Anti- record label after 2015’s New Bermuda. This effort garnered acclaim for sticking to the band’s black metal roots, while embracing a more experimental side, reminiscent of experimental acts such as Have a Nice Life.

Deafheaven are  currently in the midst of tour with Drab Majesty, Uniform and MONO, which began back in July in Phoenix. The final stretch of the tour will have the band travel across Europe beginning in Warsaw, Poland in September and end in Vienna, Austria before their tour with DIIV.

Wolfe is also in the midst of a busy year, coming off the heels of her 2017 album Hiss Spunand subsequent tour with industrial legends Ministry. The singer has also released a music video for her track “The Culling,” off Hiss Spun, in July, and will have an upcoming tour with Russian Circles this September.

DIIV have also had a big year in front of them, playing a touring stint with the Desert Daze Caravan, joining the likes of Ariel Pink, Nick Hakim, Suuns and Juujjuu. While the band’s front man Zachary Cole Smith entered long-haul inpatient treatment for his drug use back in February of 2017, the band has done few shows around the country since then, beginning  with a small tour in April of 2017.
