Ché Aimee Dorval and Devin Townsend teamed up a few years ago for the masterfully sublime alt-folk band Casualties of Cool. The two created an excellent self-titled album brimming with chilling instrumentals and gripping melodies. It was so good that we named it our best album of 2016, despite having technically been released via a crowdfunding campaign in 2014.
For the previous album, the two worked remotely. It’s hard to tell from the tweet whether or not this is the case, though after tweeting the image and message from Dorval that Casualties of Cool was being worked on again, Townsend retweeted the post with the message, “Learning is fun!”

Townsend has been quite active lately after putting his Devin Townsend Project on hiatus while he works on several solo projects. Recently, he shared a few clips from these albums for fans to check out.
Meanwhile, Dorval has been busy with her own work. In 2017 she released Between The Walls And The Window, which included the single “Afraid.” Outside of the album she released a powerful cover of The Mars Volta’s song “The Widow,” which we premiered.
