Kitten Does Interpretive Dance in New Video For “Strange Embrace”

The New York quartet known as Kitten just released the video for the third single off their new EP Pink Champagne. “Strange Embrace” is the third single of the new four-track EP released last month via Red Music.

The video, directed by Abigail Tulis, features dancers who tell the story of the song with graceful movements against a subdued neutral-color backdrop. The video begins with a male dancer who interacts with each of the four female dancers. Their actions reflecting the thematic elements of the song, infidelity and ex-lovers. their movements mirroring the song lyrics: “When every pretty face/ Is just another strange embrace at the end of the night” and “I wonder who you’re foolin’ this time around/Incapable of another strange embrace”. Near the end of the video, Kitten singer, Chloe Chaidez appears and shows off her dancing skills. Watch the video below.

“Growing up as a competitive gymnast, movement and dance have always been very big parts of my life,” said Chaidez. “My stage performance always reflects this, but this was the first time we tried a music video completely centered around a choreographed routine. Early in the songwriting process, the band had a laugh synching the song up with the dance scene from The Mask of Zorro, so there was always the idea we’d go with this vibe. The dancers and I rehearsed the amazing choreography like crazy, so the shoot was only a couple of takes. I hope everyone enjoys the video.”

Fans have been smitten with the group since the release of the self-titled debut Kitten in 2014. The band has gone through numerous line up changes over the years and Pink Champagne is the debut EP for the current arrangement.

Kitten is currently on tour with shows scheduled for Pearlpalooza in New York and InCuya Festival in Ohio. See full list of tour dates below. Tickets are available here.
