Mark Kozelek Performed a 12-Minute Song About Hungry Cats He Met in Montenegro

The past couple years or so has been a prolific period for slowcore-legend-turned-turned-folk-singer/songwriter Mark Kozelek. Between his Sun Kil Moon project and another under his own name, Kozelek has released seven (soon to be eight) full length records, including various collaborations.

Following up his self-titled record Mark Kozelek this past May, and preceding the release of his 2018 Sun Kil Moon album This is My Dinner coming this November, Kozelek has unveiled a new 12 minute song. He performed the track at Sea Rock Festival in Kotor, Montenegro on Saturday, July 21, about some hungry cats he met while spending his time in the same seaside town he was performing in.

Though the live recording doesn’t have exactly the highest of qualities, you can distinctly make out the Kozelek-standard pleasant guitar backing and the man himself’s characteristically rambling narrative.

“Woke up this morning hungry, walked along the bay of Kotor. There’s a market down there, past the sailboats, down the gravel road,” Kozelek begins. “I went looking for the kittens I saw last night and their protective mother.”
